Use accurate business details

Bring together your real business name, contact number, website, hours and location or service-area information before you start.

Complete the relevant setup steps

Follow Google’s current prompts to claim or create and verify your profile. Choose information that accurately represents the business; requirements may differ by business type.

Make it useful to customers

Add current services, suitable photos and the correct website. Check that opening hours and contact details agree with the information on your site.

Keep it up to date

Review the profile when your hours, services or contact details change. Treat it as a customer touchpoint that needs care, just like the website.

Check eligibility before creating a listing

Start with Google’s eligibility and representation rules. An online-only business is not automatically eligible for a profile. If you serve customers at their location, check the service-area requirements and whether your address should be hidden. Use genuine business details rather than adding keywords or invented locations.

Find and claim an existing profile first

Search for the business and check whether a profile already exists. Use the supported ownership or access process where needed rather than creating a duplicate. The business should retain ownership and invite help through the platform’s access controls.

Complete the details and follow the offered verification

Add accurate name, category, website, phone, hours and location or service area. Google selects the verification methods available to your business, and the process may require evidence. Do not assume verification is instant or guaranteed.

Check the customer journey after setup

Open the website link, check the phone number and review what a customer sees. Add genuine photographs and keep changes to hours and services current. A completed profile is a starting point, not a promise that you will lead every local search.
